Pirate re-enactment on the Santa Maria

    Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 6:40 PM [General]

I did this event last year and it was a blast. This year looks to be even bigger. I'll try to post pictures if I get any.

    May 9th and 10th 2009
Pirate re-enactment on the Santa Maria located on the Scioto River just off Broad Street in Downtown Columbus Ohio.

Saturday and Sunday, public hours are 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

We will be staying on the ship all weekend and camping out, drinking and eating.

Historical Pirate wear is preferred for participants, but there is room for all willing to help. Ongoing demos and tours all day Saturday and Sunday, with battles in the afternoons.

The short version of my PyrateCon weekend

    Sunday, April 27, 2008, 5:55 PM [General]

So, I went to this thing called PyrateCon 2008. It took about 12 hours to drive down and that's with a stop by the Alabama Highway Patrol. First stop, as always, Cafe Du Monde for a large Au Lait and Beignets. Then we checked into our hotel, St. Marie. After a quick unpacking job we cracked open one of our gallons of beer and had a toast on the balcony. We then hung our flags from the balcony.

We waited around until about 7pm when it was time to head to the pre-party at Pirate Alley Cafe.

We met several pirates there including the actors from The Pirates of the Carribean. I'm still trying to get those pictures.

We were sooo tired that we got drunk pretty quick and were actually in bed by 1am.

We got up early the next day and went to check in to the event. We checked in and walked around all the very wonderful merchants selling all kinds of piratey stuff.

We went to eat at a soulfood cafe around from the convention for lunch. The first event we went to was the meet and greet with the actors which was pretty cool.

Then we went to see a lecture on the history of pirate costumes by "Jamaica" Rose Barton.

After that we had a little time to rest up before the feast at The Original French Market Restaurant. It was very yummy. We listened to the bands play and then we decided to take a walk to the river and take some night pictures there (some of them are in my gallery along with all the other pictures that I've upoaded so far).

We went back to the Pirate Alley Cafe. Where we met a couple of girls visiting. After that we took them to the Funky Pirate to see The Pirates Charles.

We hung out on the balcony until around 4 or 5 am. Then back to the hotel to crash for the night.

We got up on Saturday and went to the convention to see Cindy "Willoughby Caught" Warner: Sea Shanty Workshop.

We got something to eat at Krystal Burger then back to the convention to see Ben Gersh: Distilling Fine Rum and get a bottle of rum.

Then we got something to eat and went back to the hotel to prepare for the PyrateCon 2008 Invasion of the French Quarter Parade. It ended at the Funky Pirate where we pretty much drank for most of the night. We ended the night at Pirate Alley Cafe.

When I say we ended the night at Pirate Alley Cafe every night I meant we finished drinking there every night. Before going back to the hotel we stopped by Cafe Du Monde for a late night coffee and beignets.

Sunday we got up kinda late and missed the events we wanted to goto but we checked out of the hotel and went shopping and one last stop at Cafe Du Monde. It took a lot longer to get home and we came close to running out of gas.....mental note for next year....save more money for gas.

Well, that is kind of a condensed version of  my weekend at PyrateCon. Please take some time and check out my pictures and leave a comment if you want.

Aye, the last pirates to Eire were Spanish, and it is said that some women ran too fast towards the shore, and other's too slowly away from it ...

Always good to have a Pirate as a friend,
